ON COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP... DEENA HORST has been a member and/or officer in the following community organizations: ESA International...President in Salina Chapter and Zone Chairperson. Jaycee Women - Salina Jaycee Women:  President - Kansas Jaycee Women:  President - United States Jaycee Women:  President Salina Area Chamber of Commerce - Served as a member of the Government Committee...  Goals for Salina  League of Women Voters Sunrise Presbyterian Church - Served as a Deacon, a Shepherd, and a Sunday School Teacher - Served Sunrise Clipper Mariners as Skippers and in many other offices and served on numerous planning committees Member of Advisory Boards: - Hertzler Health Foundation - Little House Adult Learning Center [former member] - Consumer Credit Counseling DEENA also has volunteered many hours: Fundraising for numerous non-profit organizations including the March of Dimes, Multiple Sclerosis, etc. As a leader/counselor at youth camps and at Hugh O'Brien Youth Seminar [HOBY] As a presenter at the Hugh O'Brien Youth Seminar [HOBY] ON PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP... DEENA HORST has taught since 1968 in Salina Middle/Junior High Schools and has served as a member of the South Middle School Site Council. She is also a member of numerous professional organizations including Kansas Art Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Her membership in those organizations has included numerous leadership positions.  She has also served on numerous planning and curriculum committees.  She has also served as Department Chairperson for numerous years.  In addition, Deena is the recipient of the prestigious KANSAS MASTER TEACHER AWARD which is awarded to six K-12 educators in Kansas each year.  PERSONALLY SPEAKING... DEENA HORST was raised on a farm, and is married to Gordon. They have two children, Randall and Rebecca and six grandsons. She holds a Bachelors and a Masters Degree from Emporia State University. She is also a Doctoral Candidate at Kansas State University.
